The Characters in the White Feather Mysteries
White Feather
White Feather is an old Cherokee medicine man. Among his people he has been called a wizard, a priest, even a witch. His Cherokee birth name is "Ugidahli Unega" [White Feather], but as an adult, for a time he was known as "Kalanu Ahkyeliski" [The Raven Mocker]. The Raven Mocker is the most feared and notorious type of Cherokee witch.
White Feather moved to the Wet Mountain Valley to get away from the stigma of his past. He is a private man, a loner, who tried to set aside his witchcraft to follow the white path. Unable to shake off his dark past, he adopted a more pragmatist philosophy.
Sam Morrison
Sam Morrison worked for the Denver Homicide Division until he was framed, discredited and fired. Buster Crab, Under Sheriff of Wet Mountain Valley and an old friend from Denver, recommended him for a deputy position.
Morrison's relocation to Rockcliffe is complicated by his ex-wife, Samantha, and kids who moved to Rockcliffe to get away from him. In Rockcliffe, Sam hopes to rebuild his life, career and his family.
Sheriff Sean Bailey
Newly elected and very popular and fair-minded, he is determined to upgrade the office while maintaining the intimate relationship between the sheriff's office and the people of Wet Mountain County.
After winning the election, his main rival and Under Sheriff of Wet Mountain Sheriff's Office resigns. Bailey turns to his other opponent in the election, retired detective Buster Crab to become the new Under Sheriff.
White Feather presents a challenge for the compassionate sheriff. White Feather is likable and very clever, but does he obstruct justice and deserve to be locked up?
Undersheriff Buster Crab
After working for the Denver Police Department, Burglary Division, Buster Crab retired to his old home town of Rockcliffe. Restless in retirement and encouraged by his wife, he runs for sheriff but is defeated by the younger more popular Sean Bailey.
CBI Agent S. Miles "Smiles" Blakeley
Sometimes, when Wet Mountain County Sheriff's Office needs additional resources, they request help from the Colorado Bureau of Investigations, CBI. S. Miles Blakeley, nicknamed "Smiles" behind his back (because he never smiles) is the CBI agent assigned to coordinate joint investigations.
Deputy Jessie Calhoun
A native of Wet Mountain Valley, Harry is a very proud, caring man but his bungling and naivete sometimes leaves him looking like a baffoon.
The Five Sleuthkateers
Franklin Roberts
Once a successful business man, at 87 years old (four score and seven), Frank has been living in a cardboard box under a bridge in Canon City for the last five years. He is rescued by a Shelter volunteer who helps him get accepted by the St. Jude Methodist Retirement Home for the indigent.
At the home, he falls in with a motley crew of old geezers who call themselves "Sleuthkateers". They find adventure in applying their accentricities to solving mysteries.
Frank has a rare condition known as Synathesia, a type of autism in which the person is able to "see time". When White Feather discovers Frank's special gift, he tries to help Frank use it for time travel.
Albert Stein
Before retiring to St. Jude Methodist Retirement Home, Albert was a reporter for the Denver Post. Never a wealthy man, his life takes a dive after his wife dies and the recession leaves him penniless.
Albert has an uncanny resemblance to actor Woody Allen and is sometimes called "Woody" by other residents at St. Jude. But anyone who knows him knows that he is nothing like a Woody Allen character. He is suave, reserved, thoughtful, and dignified. He is often turned to to lead the Sleuthkateers in their comical escapades.
Ralph Jacobs
Tall, thin, elderly, wrinkled, grumpy, Ralph is the no-nonsense, wise-guy Sleuthkateer. A construction engineer in his previous life, Ralph brings a unique perspective to the capers.
Walter "Monty" Montgomery
Tall, rotund, jovial, gullable, lovable Monty was once a veterinarian. He is easily confused and often lets his heart get in the way of logic. But his medical knowledge comes in handy with Sleuthkateer investigations.
[White Feather is the fifth member of the Sleuthkateers]
